Talking Bottles

I was invited to make a bunch of one-frame cartoons in support of an ecology campaign promoting the reusing and recycling of glass bottles. The campaign, dubbed Weź mnie w obroty (eng. Reuse me), was created by Task Force Consulting on behalf of Carlsberg Polska.

Green Drawings

More nonprofit stuff I designed to raise awareness for project number 10 in the 2014 Warsaw Participatory Budget campaign. Much thanks to all the local people, friends and neighbors who helped spreading my drawings on FB and in the area of Stara Ochota, this campaign turned out to be a huge winner – we got more than a 1.000 votes! In effect 50 trees, 70 shrubs and 100 elderberries will be planted; an insect hotel, bird and squirrel houses, new litter bins and a fountain for the kids will be installed in the Wielkopolski park. Yeah! 

More Trees

I love trees. That is why I designed this nonprofit poster to raise awareness about a participatory budgeting project aiming to plant more trees and bushes in the Wielkopolski park in Warsaw.

Spoof News

Newsroom is a spoof newspaper I designed for the Warsaw Book Fair on behalf of book publishers Muza, Akurat and PR specialists Business & Culture. 6000 copies were given away for free as an event promoting the Polish premiere of Three (Troje), a book by Kristen Simmons.

Jazz Zombie

Someone said that anything can happen in a comic. Anything. Like in this comic that I drew last year for a zombie anthology published by Borderline Press in the UK. Joanna Sanecka came up with an incredible story set in Warsaw about a jazz musician killed by the secret police in the 50s. The guy is then revived as a zombie from listening to the music of Charlie Parker. And all he wants to do is party!

Warsaw Debris

I am now designing the follow up to Grzegorz Kosson's book Warstwy (Layers). The title of the new book is Gruzy (Debris) and in a handfull of essays it tells the story of how Warsaw was destroyed and later rebuilt during and after the II World War. And just like in Warstwy I wanted to show seemingly random images on the cover, inspired by the book itself. Some of them are easily recognizable (if you are familiar with Warsaw's history) while others are more poetic and hard to decipher. This is a work in progress.

The Thieve and the Kid

Last year I made a 9-page comic for issue 1/2 (2013) of Cwiszn – a magazine about Yiddish culture in Poland. I was asked to choose a story by Sholem Asch (or Szolem Asz, as he is called in Polish). The story that caught my interest was a short piece titled The Thieve and the Kid (Dryblas z dzieckiem) about a rather unsuccessful and miserable Jewish burglar who one day finds himself raising a baby. It is a funny and tragic story with a really cool twist at the end, set in a small Polish town in the 1920s or 1930s.

I would like to thank Sławek Belina for acting as the thieve (there is a making-of picture at the end of the post) and Marta Sadkowska as the Jewish woman.

Peeling of the Layers

Warstwy (eng. Layers) is the litterary debut of Grzegorz Kosson. I designed the cover and the black and white illustrations. The result is a beautiful hardcover book with dust jackets. This is a very personal story about Warsaw, as seen through the eyes of the author – full of intricate metaphors and poetic layers. Grzegorz is now working on a follow–up called Gruzy (eng. Debris) set for spring 2014. More info here.
